Dr. Neal ElAttrache discusses UCL tears

Becker's Orthopedic Review discusses the rash of UCL tears and how to prevent them with Dr. Neal ElAttrache and others.

Becker's reports, "Dr. ElAttrache encourages young athletes to limit their season and avoid specializing in a single sport. Pitching for several consecutive months in a year creates arm fatigue, and doesn't give the muscles time to recover. It also does something far more dangerous: it creates an unhealthy pathology."

Dr. Neal ElAttrache says, "What you have then is these kids that finally mature into men and now they're able to throw the ball in the 90s instead of the 60s or 70s, and that pathology they built up when they were younger has now created a weakened environment for that ligament. By preventing early damage, we hope to prevent the surgery later in life."
